The Ribcap is a woollen hat or beanie with sewn-in lightweight StructUre impact responsive protectors. It offers you all the advantages of a normal hat, cap or beanie and can at the same time protect you against bumps, bruises, grazes, etc.
Using StructUre advanced lightweight technology Ribcaps are completely unique. StructUre technology is exclusive to Ribcap and has been specially engineered to effectively absorb impacts. It can protect your head against injuries like bumps, bruises, grazes and the protection-effect is also guaranteed for low temperatures and for extreme dampness - which is very useful in alpine conditions.
StructUre is a lightweight material , much lighter than the d3o used in previous versions of the Ribcap and it also offers 100% breathability which was a disadvantage of previous models. StructUre offers excellent head protection, and the NEW Ribcap is currently subject to an application for a completely new "soft head protection" category in European CE Safety rankings, that has been inspired specifically by the revolutionary design of the Ribcap.
Ribcaps were originally designed by Swiss designer Jurg Ramseier as an alternative to bulky helmets for snowboarders and skiers. However, it is now recognised that they can be used in many fields including Ice Skating, Extreme Sports, Skateboarding, Rollerblading and many other sports and activities.
Have some burning questions regarding the RibCap? Find some Answers below:
What’s the use of a Ribcap?
A Ribcap offers you more protection than a normal knitted cap but less than a helmet! During a fall or when banging your head against an object, the sewn-in protectors of the Ribcap absorb part of the impact and so protect you against injury.
Is a Ribcap like a helmet?
Ribcap cannot replace your helmet! It explicitly does not offer the same protection as a helmet! The Ribcap Company has totally devoted itself to “Soft Technology Protection”. For several years Ribcap has been concentrating on an alternative technology to the hard shell concept and is successfully researching into how a soft protection material can obtain an optimum protection effect.
Which injuries can Ribcap protect you against?
Every injury is different and each fall or impact generates different forces and has different effects. Ribcap can protect you during falls on smooth surfaces (e.g. ski-slope, skating track, snowed-in path) but not against pointed objects (e.g. ski-stick) – on the one hand because of the soft protector-material (Soft Protection) on the other hand because of the gaps which are not padded with protector-material. Ribcap can protect you against swellings, scratches, bruises and grazes, perhaps even against light concussion.
Why should you wear a Ribcap and not a helmet?
When you don’t feel comfortable with a helmet on and therefore don’t wear it, when the helmet impedes your hearing or when you would rather wear a soft knitted cap than hard headgear. Ribcap offers you more protection than a conventional knitted cap and on top of that, looks good. We explicitly advise you however to wear a helmet when taking part in very quick activities and extreme sports when there is an acute danger of accidents occurring!
Where is Ribcap produced? Is Fair Trade respected?
Ribcap endeavours to work together with firms who are committed to an environment –friendly and lasting production and who treat their employees with respect and provide humane working conditions. At the moment we are working together with a small family business in Bulgaria which has specialised in knitted products.
